Our Story

In the age of the internet, stereotypes are often spread online. What may seem like harmless jokes often reinforce damaging misconceptions. Way of Soul was created in recognition of how misunderstandings often stem from unfamiliarity, and while cultural differences can spark curiosity, they can also spark prejudice The obvious solution is exposure, and Way of Soul aims to educate others about the beauty of cultures around the world. 

 

Through apparel and accessories that showcase striking designs, we hope to draw consumers and their attention toward diversity, individuality, and cultures they might otherwise know nothing about. In both current designs and planned future ones, Way of Soul will feature not just vague iconography from “foreign lands”; instead, we intend to dive deep into specific elements of cultures, with text in the product descriptions that detail the history, meaning, and significance of those elements. 

 

We want to challenge people to see cultures through fresh eyes. To ensure accuracy, we have collaborated with cultural consultants and artists before releasing any of our collections. We have taken care to properly learn about the traditional art styles and the significance of cultural symbols to not only create intriguing apparel but also maintain respect and appreciation rather than propagate appropriation. Our collaborations also align with our second mission of uplifting small-scale artists by providing meaningful ways to express cultural identity. 

 

With each design, we hope to share important life stories, growing a company that goes beyond just clothing: Way of Soul strives to become a brand that empowers people who design it and wear it. While it may seem like a far-fetched dream, we plan to transform a deep passion for cultural appreciation into a global movement against misunderstanding and prejudice.
